Chiarra Gregorc Planinc

Chiarra Gregorc Planinc, born in 2017, has been playing zither since the tender age of 8. She first took zither classes at the Slovenska Bistrica Music School, having spent the first 4 months of her studies with Professor Irena Anžič and continuing with Professor Franja Kočnik. She’s in her 4th year of zither studies at the Slovenske Konjice Music School in the class of Professor Ranja Kočnik.

Chiarra is an amazing young artist with a very mature understanding and feel for music at a very young age. Her mature ability of interpretation and world-class technique earned her top ranks at various music competitions. She took part in the 2016 Svirél International Music Competition, earning a top score of 99 points in her category (2016), the 2017 International Zither Competition in Munich, where she placed 1st and earned a special recognition for her amazing performance that was far beyond her category, and took part in the 2018 Slovenian music competition TEMSIG, where she won the gold prize, ranked 1st in her category, and earned a special recognition for the most promising young competitor.

Aside from competitions, she regularly appears in recitals and performs in public events organized by her music school and other institutions. She regularly takes part in zither seminars where she collects valuable experience and further hones her craft.

Quarter Four Characters

The Quarter Four Characters was founded in October 2016. A somewhat unusual ensemble of oboe, flute, clarinet and piano came about when four students of the Ljubljana Academy of Music decided to play together. The quartet are Felicijan Laura on flute, Lackovič Peter on oboe, Pušnik Jan on piano, and Špela Šrgan on clarinet. All members of the quartet regularly perform solo and take part in various competitions and seminars across Europe. They’ve been playing under the mentorship of Professor Matej Šarc ever since they founded the quartet.

In March 2018 the quartet took part in the national music competition TEMSIG and won the gold prize and first place. This achievement opened up many doors for the quartet and they are scheduled to appear in concerts around Slovenia in the upcoming months. At TEMISG the quartet also premiered the piece by composer Črt Sojar Voglar entitled Four Characters, the piece the quartet take their name from and that was written especially from them. They also took the piece to the ‘Zvokotok’ project of the ‘Sploh’ Institute that opens up new possibilities for classical concerts and further expands the opportunities for ensembles and artists to appear in concerts.
