Duo Novum are Jan Gričar on the saxophone and Nejc Grm on the accordion, who met while studying at the Ljubljana Music and Ballet Conservatory. They both graduated cum laude at the Ljubljana Music Academy. Both of them are also Prešeren student prize laureates, awarded by the University of Ljubljana. After finishing their studies in Ljubljana, Jan and Nejc both went to study abroad; Jan earned his Masters at the National Superior Conservatory of Paris for Music and Dance (CNSM de Paris), and Nejc is a student of Music Schools in Basel and Freiburg.

Jan and Nejc began working together in earnest as students in Ljubljana, and began to create and expand back then the set they perform today. They write their arrangements themselves, whereby renowned composers such as Matej Bonin, Nina Šenk and Olli Virtaperko are more than glad to contribute their pieces for the duo. Jan and Nejc earned rave reviews for their concert in Brusells, where they appeared at the ceremony commemorating the Slovenian national holiday, the 25th anniversary of independence and unity of Slovenia, and the 70th anniversary of the Association of Slovenian composers.
