Trio Rupnik are a family piano trio consisting of violinist Manca (born 1996), 3rd year student of the Salzburg Mozarteum University in the class of Professor Rainer Schmidt, cellist Nejc (born 2000), 3rd year student of the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet in the class of Professor Karmen Pečar, and pianist Anže (born 1998), 1st year student of the Ljubljana Academy of Music in the class of Professor Tatjana Ognjanovič. 

The trio began playing under the mentorship of Professors Kaja Stražar and Urša Kržič at the Vrhnika Music School. From 2013 until 2016 they operated under the auspices of the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet under the mentorship of Professor Tomaž Lorenz. Last fall the trio moved to the Ljubljana Academy of Music where they are mentored by Professor Janez Podlesek. In May 2011 the trio entered their first international competition, the Festival Gudaća 2011 in Sremska Mitrovica, and took 1st place, earned a score of 100 points, and won the grand award. In December of the same year they again took 1st place and again scored 100 points at the international music competition Paolo Spincich in Trieste, Italy. In 2012 the trio won 1st prize and scored another 100 points at the Stringfest international festival in Sremska Mitrovica. In 2013 the trio entered the Svirel International Music Competition in Štanjel, Slovenia, winning the gold award and a special prize. In 2014 the trio won the gold award, 1st prize, and a special award at the national music competition TEMSIG. In December 2015 they won 1st prize at the 5th competition of Slovenian instrumental chamber ensembles Primovž Ramovš, where they also secured a record deal with Radio Slovenia. In 2016, at the 8th Svirel International Music Competition in Goriška Brda, the trio earned a score of 100 points and the title ‘Gold Finalist’. In 2017 they won the gold award, 1st prize, scored 100 points and a special award for best rendition at the national music competition TEMSIG. Rupnik Piano Trio are winners of the 2015 Škerjanc Award of the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet for student excellence and contributions to the recognition of the school.

In December 2013 the trio appeared in a solo concert as part of the concert series ‘Glasbene nedelje v Unionu s prof. Lorenzem’ (Music Sundays at Union with Professor Lorenz) at the Blue Salon of the Grand Hotel Union. In 2014 they played a solo concert as part of the International Concert Series ‘Mladi Virtuozi’ (Young Virtuosos) at the Festival Ljubljana, and later appeared in another concert in Rome. In 2015 they played a concert as part of the Ljubljana Music Youth association in the concert series ‘Dobimo se na Magistratu’ (We’ll Meet You at the Magistrate), played Festival Bled in July at the ‘Night of Russian Music for Piano Trio’ at the Grand Hotel Toplice, appeared at the 2015 Gallus Fest in September at Idrija’s Gewerkenegg castle, and played a concert as part of the concert series ‘La domenica a Duino’ in Duino, Italy, in October. In 2016 the trio played a solo concert as part of the ‘Imago Sloveniae’ event commemorating brothers Primož and Tomaž Lorenz at the Red Hall of the Ljubljana Magistrate, and later played the Ljubljana City Museum in July. In September they played the Festival Vrhnika and later appeared in the opening concert of the International Music Series ‘Mladi Virtuozi’ (Young Virtusosos) in October as part of Festival Ljubljana at the Knight Hall of Ljubljana’s Križanke venue. In April 2017 the trio made their first appearance at the Korotan Slovenian Cultural Centre in Vienna, played a solo concert in November at the Celje Music School, and, in the beginning of December, played a concert for the Ljubljana Music Youth as part of the ‘Ob klavirju’ (At the Piano) concert series at Osterc Hall of the Slovenian Philharmonic. End of December the trio appeared as guests of Darja Korez Korenčan in the traditional year-end musical gathering at the Krka Gallery.

Nejc’s cello was made by master violin maker Katharin Abbühl (y. 2011), whereby Manca uses a violin made by master makers Alessandro Crillovi and Katharin Abbühl from Cremona, "Sub spirito" (y. 1999).
