MaTango brings together and connects dancers and Argentinian tango lovers from Maribor and the Maribor area, who share the same passion in preserving, developing and spreading this dance art that is more than just a dance. Numerous tangueros meet in dance classes, practicas, festivals, and workshops with foreign and local tango teachers and milongas, all of them united in a common love – the love of storytelling through sensuous moves in a dance pair. The Argentinian tango does not have standard dance figures; everything the partners agree without words goes. The male dancer leads and invites, his partner responds, and both are inspired by the rhythm and music.
Andres Sautel and Celeste Medina are professional tango dancers from Argentina, born in La Plata, one of the provinces of Buenos Aires. Argentinian tango has been their way of life for the past 20 years. Excellent technique and regal grace have led them to a successful career in the most prestigious dance competitions of the Stage Tango series. In recent years, they’ve been focusing on teaching and spreading Argentinian culture beyond the borders of their homeland. According to Sautel and Medina, tango is a dance for everybody, not just the professionals.
They brought their dedicated mentorship to dancers in France, Spain, the UK, Brazil, the U.S., Turkey, Japan, Thailand, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, and Slovenia. The duo appear at the most prestigious tango showcases across the world, such as Señor Tango, Viejo Almacén, Tango Porteño, Piazzolla Tango and Central Tango, whereby Celeste is part of a very prominent group, the For Ever Tango.
