Beach tennis is a popular summer pastime best enjoyed on an Italian beach and now available for your pleasure at courts across Slovenia. From Friday, 29 June 2018 until Sunday, 1 July 2018, Maribor will host two international beach tennis challenges (beach grounds at ŠD Zrkovci sports club). Starting at 13:00 on Sunday, you can play beach tennis free of charge as part of a promotional campaign aiming to bring beach tennis closer to those who have not heard of it yet.
Beach tennis combines regular tennis and beach volleyball. The point is not to let the ball drop on the ground. A beach tennis court is identical in size to a beach volleyball court, the net is 170 centimetres high, the balls softer, the rackets smaller, and the scoring system the same as in regular tennis. Beach tennis is gaining recognition all across the world, both as a professional sport and as a recreational activity, as it is a great way to get moving, relax, and socialize. Beach tennis was born in the USA and Brazil in the 1970’s and blossomed mainly on the beaches of neighbouring Italy, where its popularity on a global scale is greatest to this day (over one million players). Now it is becoming more and more popular in Slovenia as well.
Anyone can play beach tennis, as it is less technically demanding as regular tennis and does not require years of practice to have a relaxing game. If you wish to take the sport more seriously, however, some tennis skills are required. It can be played as a purely recreational activity, or more seriously by entering a series of tournaments that take place during the summertime.

If so, join us on Sunday, 1 July, at the grounds of ŠD Zrkovci sports club for a free promotional game of beach tennis, and take in a few professional matches while you’re at it. The international beach tennis challenge, featuring Slovenian and international players, will take place from Friday, 29 June 2018 until Sunday, 1 July 2018. The free promotional beach tennis campaign will be held on Sunday, 1 July 2018, starting at 13:00.
