On Triglav’s Day of Heroes, the Triglav Stage will hosts successful biathlete and Olympic silver medallist Jakov Fak.
Jakov Fak wanted to become a world-class athlete from young age. Skiing is the most important pastime in his native town of Mrkopolje in Gorski kotar, so he donned a pair of ski boots first. Every day he rode 40 kilometres by bike up and down a dangerous and winding road to get to practice to Rijeka, and took strength training in the locker room of the local football club.
During the winter, the only practice course he had available was a mere 500-metres long running track, so he chose to train with Slovene biathletes at Pokljuka in Slovenia. After winning bronze medals at the World Biathlon Championships in PyeongChang and Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, he decided he wanted to compete for Slovenia. After long negotiations, he got his wish. Jakov Fak won the first Olympic silver medal in biathlon for Slovenia at this year’s winter Olympic Games.
An interview where he will reveal more about himself, his career in sports and plans for the future, ladies and gentlemen, we give you Jakov Fak.
