Marko Črnčec is one of the most renowned contemporary music artists. He lives and creates in New York City. On the international scene, Črnčec is known as an artist versed in multiple instruments, a composer, music arranger and producer, whose primary focus are jazz and popular music.
The ensemble Dhamana, which means both connection/link and reliability and value in Swahili, is the result of Marko’s international experience and music collaborations of recent years. But it’s more than that – it’s the culmination above and beyond what Marko has achieved so far. It’s only right for Dhamana to make its global premiere at the Jazz Podium, and only right to hold this premiere in Maribor. According to Črnčec, “this project proves how music can bring together people from different parts of the world and different backgrounds.” Of course, none of this would be possible if the musicians wouldn’t share the same beliefs and the same sincere understanding of music. We can look forward to a concert that will join African, Cuban, American and Balkan musical influences – join them in a way that makes the term ‘world music’ completely obsolete.
